A view on working with an asphalt company as a production team.
Establishing a Path of Design
Called to action by Lite Load Services, our (VNTG.) production team grabbed our Sony DSLR, and DJI drone for ground and aerial leveling of the asphalt company in action. Before we dive in, let’s lay out the ground-work of the objective.
LLS specializes in asphalt service, encompassing factories, walkways, parking lots (pretty much any type), and roads, and they are adhering in the state of Michigan. LLS’ work ranges from starting anew, to the stripping-down and rebuilding process of asphalt repair.
They were ready to catalog and deepen their breadth of digital presence, further enhancing their ability to exchange information more efficiently as a company of what they bring-to-the-table, ultimately opening doors for profit. Per usual, our video team was ready to dive into the robustness of paving foundations well.
Working the Path
Leveling our way into greater goals, our teams met deep in each of our own processes. We began our journey at the developing establishment of Benteler Automotive as they were in the early stages of road and lot framework, and it was time for our teams to show the grit of each skill.
Embracing the first layer of our base, the camera and team’s mettle was tested with the highly concentrated heat and steam of the asphalt, and being just a touch away, we quickly learned the respect of the craft before us. Asphalt pouring and compressing, a work of confidence, patient timing, stark awareness, and the framework to contain high-density-focus under pressure. A discipline in balancing the elements of rhythm, heat, pressure, and the elongated draw of cooling and coherence. The best teacher as a production team here is, embrace, getting to witness the paving of society at work (under the legal compliance of safety). Collaborating the LLS team, we discovered a well balanced gritty-crew of focus, skill, and the playful humor every healthy workplace needs.
Up-close the environment was pure cinema. Steam of the hot asphalt meeting the summer light and air, creating a mysterious atmosphere, drawing our curiosity to discover solidification of what we had found ourselves being initiated in. Furthermore stretching our focus to the finesse of the machine operators, guiding the way gravity and the LLS team direct the asphalt back to the earth; followed by ample roller pressure. Keeping the precise rhythm of patient-and-steady, not rushing through tension of what lies ahead, but keeping true to a high-quality job of layering earth-to-earth. An alchemical lesson hidden in the coal of experience, transformed to gold through practice and contemplation as a production team, staying true to craft of high-quality design and remembrance.
From above, our drone pilot brought a higher understanding of the job’s layers. Revealing each process as the project cascaded through its phases of establishment. Grasping the grandness of scale the project(s) offered, pointing to the veracity required to found a proper design, or heal a former design that has hit the end of the road. As the team poured asphalt over asphalt, our drone revealed the cadence the team was coordinating through their invisible strings of back-and-forth. The cycle of trucks closely followed by trucks, keeping the compression process hot and malleable, allowing the pouring and refining team’s process smooth and level.
We had captured our footage, and our production converted to post-production. Phasing to set up and alignment of the footage, and balancing the pieces— sounds, atmosphere, and feel of what it is to work the road. We won’t get lost in the details here, our collaborative videos will say the rest, and let the artwork set.
Letting the Chemistry Cohere
Collaboration between VNTG and Lite Load Services focused on translating the physical discipline of asphalt work into a clear, compelling visual narrative. Through ground-level production, aerial perspective, and intuitive post-production design, we captured the precision, rhythm, and scale required to build and restore the foundations people rely on every day. By documenting LLS’s process with authenticity and respect for the craft, we created visual assets that strengthen their digital presence, communicate capability with clarity, and open new routes (literally) for connection, trust, and opportunity across Michigan’s commercial landscape, physically and digitally.
